It's no secret that Kelis is one of music's commander-in-chiefs when it comes to breakthrough fashion, so it's no surprise that she has been seen wearing several pieces from the much-buzzed-about Nigerian fashion house Jewel By Lisa. Jewel By Lisa (JBL) has made a name for itself by pioneering the embellished Ankara fabric -- adorning it with beads, Swarovski crystals and sequins. Each piece of the JBL collection is distinctive and original, fusing the vibrant West African print with an ultramodern vibe.
Kelis also performed recently in London, where she sported a green Ankara print shirtdress. A few days later in New York, she modeled the JBL "Frou Frou" skirt on BET's '106 & Park.'
In an interview with 'MTV News,' Kelis said of 'Flesh Tone,' her latest LP, "It's got all these ethnic influences in it. There is a Native American element to it and an African element to it and an Asian element to it. It's really tribal and kind of surreal at the same time."
